This link will take you to another page, where you’ll enter the email address you used to create your account. Getting Started with Transactions

What is a transaction?
Jamabi uses “transaction” as a generic word to describe purchases, donations or fan registration campaigns.

Why do I have to create a transaction before I upload my media file?
Jamabi is designed to support its users by encouraging transactions between users who post content and users who view it.

What is a product?
A product is what you would like to sell. It could be a physical good (like chair, bag etc.) or a service or a downloadable electronic file.

How do I create a product?
Once you have signed in, click “Start Selling” in the menu bar. This will open the Start Selling interface to create a product.

Jamabi Menu Bar

The first step is to select a product form. Choose the Basic Product Form for physical goods and services, and choose the Downloadable Product Form for electronic files, such as videos, music and software.

Create Product Form

The second step is to complete the product form. Please remember that all fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are mandatory.

Basic Product Form

Downloadable Product Form

The third step is to choose whether you will use a video, audio or image file to support your product. This media file will act like a commercial, trailer or preview for what you have to monetize. You can link your product to a video, audio or image file you will upload, or one you have previously uploaded to your account. If you link your product to a media file you have previously uploaded, any product, cause or fan registration campaign already linked to that product will be unlinked and will no longer display in the Jamabi Marketplace or third-party sites.

Create Product

The fourth step is to either complete the information form for the media you are uploading or to select a previously uploaded media file to link to your product.

Upload New Video Form

Upload New Audio Form

Upload New Image Form

For image files, Jamabi will create a thumbnail image for display in the Jamabi Player.

Previously Uploaded Media Form

Should I use the basic product form or the downloadable product form?
Choose the Downloadable Product Form if you are selling a downloadable file, such as a video, song, ringtone, software, e-book, PDF or similar file. Choose the Basic Product form for any product or service that must be shipped, such as a DVD, CD, book, item of clothing or piece of equipment.

What type of files can I sell as downloads?
Jamabi allows you to sell virtually any type of file as a download, as long as it is 500 MB or less and does not go against our Community Standards and Terms of Use.

When I already uploaded a media file for sale why do I need to upload another media file to link to my product?
In most cases, you will not want to show the entire media file you are selling. For example, you might want to show a trailer for a film before asking someone to buy it, instead of showing the entire film first. Or you might want to use a video for a song to sell an entire album. Separating the product file and the media file also makes it easier to edit them and link them to different media files and products later.

What is a cause?
A cause is a charity (tax-exempt or non-tax exempt) or a tip jar that is seeking donations.

What is a 501(c) 3 organization?
A 501(c) 3 organization is a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation or association. Donations to these organizations are, in most cases, tax deductible. Check with your tax advisor before making any donation or claiming any tax benefits. What is a tip jar?
A tip jar accepts donations for users who do not have a product for sale, or a cause beyond themselves, but who are still are asking for your support. A Jamabi tip jar is the electronic equivalent of an open guitar case for a local street musician.

Why is creating a tip jar grouped with charitable causes?
As a form of donation, tip jars are currently grouped with causes.

  • Choose the Non-Tax-Deductible Organization form if your organization is charitable, but not tax-deductible. Raising money for a school band is one example.
  • Choose the Tip Jar form if you’d like to collect donations for yourself, based on your music, art, filmmaking, etc.

Fields that are marked “Optional” do not need to be completed by a viewer before they register. Fields that are marked “Not Displayed” are not shown to viewers.

To provide additional flexibility, Jamabi has provided custom fields that you can name. Once named, and marked either Optional or Required, they will appear in the Jamabi Player as part of a fan registration campaign.

The second step is to choose whether you will use a video, audio or image file to support your fan registration campaign. If you chose to receive registrations daily, you will receive a daily email with the information from users who completed the form.

What if my product, cause or fan registration campaign does not fit any of the categories listed?
If your product, cause or fan registration campaign does not fit into any of the categories listed, add it to General Retail and write suggestions@jamabi.com with your suggestion for a new category for the Jamabi Marketplace. Jamabi will create new categories based on the requests received for them and how they fit Jamabi’s growth plans, Terms of Use and Community Practices.

Why do I need to upload a picture for my product, cause or fan registration campaign?
This picture shows viewers what they will purchase, donate to or sign up for. Upload a small image, less than 4 MB, that best showcases your product, cause or fan registration campaign. This could be a photo of the product, a cause poster, a CD-cover or a campaign logo.

If a media file was linked to a deleted transaction, then that media file no longer appears on the Jamabi Marketplace, your public Channel Page or third party sites. However, this media file will remain in Jamabi (under My Media) and can be later linked to another product, cause or campaign.

On blogs, the Jamabi Player will be replaced by a graphic that reads:

Getting Started with Media Files

What is a media file?
A media file is Jamabi’s overall term for a video, audio or image file.

Jamabi allows you to use a media file as an interactive advertisement for your product, cause or fan registration campaign. For example, you can use a video for your song to sell an MP3 download, generate donations to your favorite cause or sign up fans for your band’s mailing list. Media files can also be sponsored by an advertiser, such as a web series supported by interactive ads on Jamabi.

What types of media files are supported by Jamabi?
Jamabi currently supports most commonly-used media file types, including:

Video     Audio     Image

3GP (cell) MV4   WAV MP3   JPG/JPEG PDF
AVI WMV   AIFF (Mac)     BMP PNG
MPEG-1 MP4   RA(Real Audio)     GIF
MPEG-2 FLV   AU (Sun, Unix)     TIF/TIFF
MOV (QuickTime)     WMA (Windows Media)

If your preferred file type is not listed, try it anyway – it might work. If you would like us to support a specific file type, email us at suggestions@jamabi.com.

How do I edit a media file’s title or description information?
You can change the media file title or description through the Edit Media page. There are two alternate ways that will lead you to the Edit Media page.

Please note that to replace the media file itself, you will need to upload it as a new file. Use the Change Media link under the Edit Media heading of the My Products, My Cause or My Campaigns page.

Why do I need to upload a thumbnail image for my media file?
While many media hosting sites will grab a random frame from your file to act as the thumbnail image, Jamabi gives you more control over how your file appears when it isn’t playing.

Jamabi will use this image to represent the media file in your account records, on the Jamabi Marketplace and in the Jamabi Player. You can use the same image you used for your product, cause or fan registration campaign. However, if you decide to link the media file to a different product, cause or fan registration campaign later, you’ll want to change the thumbnail.

How do I delete a media file? What happens when a media file is deleted?
Click on My Jamabi in the main navigation bar. Under the heading Manage Media, click My Media. This will open a page displaying the media files you have uploaded.

Find the media file you wish to delete, then click Delete Media under the column marked Edit Media. A pop-up will ask you to confirm that you want to delete the media file. Click Delete to delete the media file or click Cancel to return to the My Media page. A media file that has been deleted cannot be recovered or un-deleted.

When a media file is deleted, the product, cause or fan registration campaign that was linked to that file will still be available to viewers via your Jamabi Channel page. However, that transaction will no longer be visible in the Jamabi Marketplace or on third-party sites, such as blogs, until it is linked to another media file.

On blogs or third party sites, the Jamabi Player will be replaced by a graphic that reads:

On Facebook pages the embedded thumbnail of the deleted media files will still be visible. However, clicking on it will open a Jamabi Media page displaying an error message that reads:

Currently, Jamabi only permits one product, cause or fan registration campaign to be linked with a specific media file. To change the media file linked to a transaction go to Manage My Products, Manage My Causes or Manage My Campaigns page where the transaction is displayed. Click Change Media under the Edit Media column to open the Link Media interface.

The Link Media interface will offer you options to link this product to a video, audio or image file you will upload, or to a previously uploaded media file. The process is identical to the process used to link media to newly created products.

When you link a new media file to a transaction that is already linked to another media file, the original media file is delinked from the transaction.

When you link a previously uploaded media file to a new transaction then any other transactions linked to this previously uploaded media file will be delinked and the new transaction will be linked.

Updated media files will be displayed, both on the Jamabi Marketplace and in Jamabi Players embedded in third party sites. Where the media file is embedded as thumbnail, such as Facebook, Digg and reddit.com, the original thumbnail will remain; however, it will link to a Jamabi page that displays the newer media file.

From now through June 30, 2011 you can enjoy Jamabi commission-free.

Starting on July 1, 2011, Jamabi will charge a sliding scale, based on the type and amount of transaction.

What can I do with my Jamabi Channel page?
Beyond your media files and your descriptions of products, causes and fan registration campaigns, Jamabi offers you a place to communicate even more about yourself, your company, your band or your pet goldfish through your Jamabi Channel page.

When you sign up as a Jamabi user, we create a default Jamabi Channel page for you, based on your username. Whenever a viewer sees your username, such as next to the words “Posted by,” clicking on the username takes them to your channel page.

The header image and text of your channel will also be displayed in the My Channel tab of any Jamabi Player you create, wherever that Jamabi Player is embedded. The My Channel tab in the Jamabi Player will also include a link back to your Jamabi Channel page.

What is the best way to describe my product, cause or fan registration campaign?
There are lots of online guides to writing advertising copy, but you should start with the most direct, important or compelling reasons why a viewer will want to buy your product, support your cause or sign up for your fan registration campaign. Tell viewers what they’ll get, what you’re doing or why you want to contact them. Use as few words as possible. And remember, you can always edit it later.

How can I make the best media file for my product, cause or fan registration campaign?
It doesn’t matter whether you’ve shooting with an IMAX camera or a cell phone – video is the most immediate and compelling media format. But for a video to help you connect to your viewers and drive a transaction, keep the following in mind:
  • Tell viewers what you want them to do
They may not know. Use a caption, a text overlay or just say it to the camera. Something like: “Click the Buy button to get this skateboard,” works just fine.
  • Set a realistic price for your product or a reasonable target donation for your cause or tip jar
Nobody will pay $10 to see what happened when you set up a trampoline at a cactus farm, but 100 people might pay $0.50, especially if you make it a plea for your tweezers fund.
  • Tell donors how they’re helping
If you are asking for donations, tell viewers where their money will go. “I run an animal shelter, please help” doesn’t go as far as “Your two dollars will help build a kennel for Fluffy, Beadle and Spot.”
  • Include taxes and shipping
If you have a merchant account with PayPal, use that, and tell viewers (in the Description field of the Buy tab) that shipping and taxes will be added in there. If not, remember that you’ll have to pay for them yourself, and include them in your price.
  • Balance your requests for data
Registering fans offers you the chance to ask your fans for a lot of data, but remember that asking for too much will turn off a lot of viewers. Figure out what you need most, and ask for that.
  • Don’t use other people’s media
Unless you’re positive it’s public domain, if you didn’t make it, don’t use it. It’s that simple. Look up public domain and fair use law, and, if necessary, ask a lawyer.
  • Don’t be a scam artist
If you are scamming our users, Jamabi will help the authorities find you.
If I embed a Jamabi Player on my site, can I get a percentage of its sales?

How do I know a tax-deductible cause on Jamabi is actually tax-deductible?
Jamabi divides causes into three categories: tax-deductible causes, non-tax-deductible causes and tip jars.

A tax-deductible or 501(c) 3 organization is a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation or association. Donations to these organizations are, in most cases, tax deductible. Any cause claiming to be tax-deductible has to provide its federal Employer Identification Number (EIN). Jamabi posts that number, along with the words “Tax-Deductible Cause” in the Donate tab of that cause’s Jamabi Player. The cause’s EIN is also displayed on the content poster’s Jamabi Channel page.

Jamabi will attempt to verify the identity of organizations that claim to be tax-deductible under IRS 501(c) 3 rules. Jamabi encourages you to check with your tax advisor before making any donation or claiming any tax benefits. For a list of tax-deductible organizations, check the home page for IRS Publication 78: http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=96136,00.html

How do I know a non-tax-deductible cause on Jamabi is legitimate?
Jamabi provides an open market for causes to ask for donations, so Jamabi encourages users to research an organization before donating to it. If Jamabi receives complaints from its users that an organization is requesting funds deceptively, Jamabi will review the organization and may terminate its account. Jamabi will cooperate with authorities investigating or prosecuting fraudulent causes and charitable organizations.

Who receives my donation to a tip jar?
Donations to tip jars go directly to the person or organization that posted the transaction them.

What happens after I register for a fan registration campaign?
Jamabi will forward the information you provided to the user who set up the campaign. You can contact that user via Jamabi messaging.
